Take a mental health day: As a society, it is universally accepted that people get physically sick. Not only is it understood that people get sick, it is accepted that when sick, people need to stay home, go to the doctor, and recover. That is why employers provide employees with sick leave. What is not universally accepted is that people need a mental and emotional break too. Not only is it not recognized by jobs, but people themselves don’t often realize that they need to take a day off work when they are feeling run down from stress or emotional strain. And really, don’t physical and mental/emotional illness go hand in hand? Don’t we often feel physically sick when we are stressed and vice versa. It is important to remember to treat your mental health as well as your physical health. If you are feeling overwhelmed, especially during this time of year, take a mental health day. Use the day to catch up on rest and do things that revitalize you.
